WHAT IS DOUBLE GLAZING

Double glazing is made from two pieces of glass sealed together with an air space in between, commonly referred to as an Insulated Glass Unit (IGU). A double glazed window sits in your window frame just as regular single glazing would, but provides a number of extra benefits.
Double glazing was specifically designed to reduce heat loss from homes and buildings but with recent technological developments it provides many other benefits to your home.
- Warmer in Winter
- Cooler in Summer
- Quieter
- Reduce Condensation
- Reduce Mildew
- Increase Energy Efficiency
- Greater Security
- Reduce Power/Heating Bills
- Add Value to your Home
- Virtually Eliminate UV rays
- A Healthier Environment
Enviroglaze can recommend the best combination of glass types to meet your needs and budget.
THE DETAILED BENEFITS

Climate Control:
Due to the Insulated Glass Unit decreasing heat transference, climate control inside the home is greatly increased. This means that when using heating devices in winter or cooling devices in summer, the temperature will stay the same for longer. Thereby decreasing the amount of time that they need to be turned on and increasing the amount of time they can be switched off. Savings of up to 52% on your heating bill can be reached with the right IGU package.
Quieter Home:
Standard double glazing will decrease noise within your home. Additional noise reduction can be achieved through the use of specialty glass in the manufacturing of your Insulated Glass Unit.
UV Reduction:
There are two methods of controlling UV reduction into your home through your double glazing. The first is by using tinted windows which can decrease UV penetration by up to 75%. You can achieve further reduction by the use of laminate glass which can reduce UV penetration by up to 99%.
Added Value:
New Zealanders are recognising more and more the full benefits of complete home insulation. Real Estate agents are stating there are more buyers that require double glazing as part of their purchase criteria. While double glazing may not necessarily add an increased dollar value to your home, it definitely adds value when it comes to a buyerís desire when choosing between homes, with or without double glazing.

Security:
Double glazing gives a natural deterrent to potential home invaders by having to break through two layers of glass. This can be further enhanced by the use of Laminate Glass which is virtually impenetrable.
Condensation/Mildew Reduction:
Condensation is created when cold air meets warm air and it hits its dew point. Double glazing creates a sealed air barrier between warm and cold air, thereby stopping the two from meeting. HENCE NO CONDENSATION! We say ëcondensation reductioní due to aluminium framing having some conductive properties which can sometimes cause a small amount of condensation forming around the edge of a window. Another factor that can cause condensation is too much moisture within the home, generally caused by cooking and/or drying clothes. Condensation may also form on extremely cold days when the inside of the home is excessively warm, although this is a rare occurrence.
As condensation is substantially reduced within the home, less moisture is available for the formation of mildew or toxic moulds.

TYPES OF GLASS
Clear:
Or Annealed glass is the name given to the standard glass utilised in most homes.
Low Emissivity:
Is glass that has a special metallic coating applied during its manufacturing process. Enviroglaze uses Hard Low Emissivity glass. This makes it difficult (hard) to scratch or remove the coating. Often this glass has a bluish tint to it. The metallic coating works by bouncing back any heat trying to pass back through the IGU back into the house.
Laminate:
Is a 6.38mm thick glass that consists of two separate panes adhered to a polymer film laminated together. The benefits from laminate are increased UV protection, security, noise control and overall greater home protection. It is also a safety glass that meets the NZ Glass Standards and Human Impact Safety Standard NZS 4223.
Tinted:
Is only available for Clear or Laminate Glass, in either grey or bronze. It provides increased privacy, higher heat deflection from outside to inside in addition to increased UV protection.
Privacy Glass:
Enviroglaze has privacy glass options available for your bathroom windows, to ensure that you maintain your privacy at all times.
CONSIDER THIS
Enviroglaze NZ, always at the forefront of double glazing technology, offers for your benefit these additional options
Argon Gas:
Argon is a nontoxic, clear, inert and odourless gas that provides additional insulation to your IGUís by up to 15%. Argon is heavier than air and unlike air is not in continuous motion. It therefore reduces the transference of heat and/or cold through your IGU by up to a further 15%.
As your IGU is a completely sealed unit, the argon gas is contained within the unit. In the unlikely event of an argon gas filled window being broken allowing the argon to escape, please note that it is completely harmless.
Nanoshield:
Most believe that glass is a smooth surface when it is actually very porous. Nanoshield protects the porous glass from damage by surface contaminants. This professionally applied treatment bonds onto the glass, creating a low maintenance water and dirt repelling surface. It will increase the length of time that new glass stays looking like new and reduce cleaning times by up to 90% without requiring cleaning fluids. Imagine just hose and walk away.
Water beads up and repels off the NanoShield-treated Glass to prevent water marks and staining of the glass surface
Our consultants will price these additional options as part of your personalised estimate.
